Qualia's Qualms

Liminal confutations from a historian of race, science and empire

About

I’m Sadiah Qureshi. I’m a historian of race, science and empire. This blog gives me a chance to reflect on the personal importance of the history I write. I’ve written a book about displayed peoples and published various articles on race, science and empire. I tweet as @SadiahQureshi and @histextinction.

My best friend nicknamed me Qualia at university. I have always loved the word so Qualia’s Qualms was a natural choice for my blog’s name. Qualia (singular ‘quale’) are the qualities or properties perceived or experienced by a person in everyday life, from the warmth of the sun on your skin to the pleasure of seeing a stunning shade of turquoise. You can find out more about how philosophers use the term here.

I am represented by Andrew Gordon of David Higham Associates.
